Omo Moses
Omo is the former Executive Director and a founding member of the Young People’s Project (YPP), a national non-profit organization with programs in over ten US cities that utilize math to prepare students to succeed in school and in life. During Omo’s tenure at YPP he raised over $20,000,000 for programming and operations, and secured two National Science Foundation grants.
One of four siblings, Omo grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, attended the University of Pittsburgh and George Washington University on basketball scholarships, where he majored in mathematics and minored in creative writing. He received the Black Issues in Higher Education Sports–Scholar Award as well as the school’s Creative Writing Award. Omo founded MathTalk in 2015 and is the father of two precocious little ones, Johari who is 8, and Kamara who is 6.
Javier Maisonet
Javier Maisonet started working with MathTalk in 2017 as a Project Management Consultant, since August of 2020 Javier has transitioned fulltime to the role of MathTalk Director of Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives. Javier has worked with youth and children since he was 16 working at the Pre-School his Mother oversaw. Since that time Javier has earned a Bachelor's Degree from DePaul University in Public Policy and a Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Educational Leadership.
Javier has worked in the nonprofit sector for 20 years having led the Chicago Site of the National Organization The Young People’s Project and most recently held the position of Youth Development Director for ASPIRA of Illinois.
Javier lives in Chicago, IL with his wife and 3 children who are 8, 6, and 2, years old. MathTalk has excited Javier since he was presented with the idea and enjoys playing with the emerging technology and installations with his kids and their friends.
Co-Design
Angie UyHam nurtures opportunities that uplift curiosity, creativity and courage. By co-designing with students, educators, families and community partners she believes we can experiment with novel and inspiring possibilities. These are some of the reasons she joined Math Talk in 2017!
With over two decades of classroom and educational coaching experience, she founded the Cambridge Educators Design Lab which uses community driven-design to address pressing challenges in education and beyond. In addition to her work with the Cambridge Public Schools as the District Design and Innovation Coach, Angie leads a Community Design Lab supporting the opportunity for multiple stakeholders to be shared visionaries and decision makers in their communities.
Angie holds degrees in psychology, education and business and she continues to be interested in the human spirit, learning and organizational development. You’ll find Angie making art, cheering on her favorite sports teams (Go Blue!), and exploring and playing with her family.
Katie Flores
Katie Flores writes early childhood math curriculum and coaches elementary school math teachers at UChicago STEM Education. She has presented sessions on early math at national conferences, including the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
Katie grew up in central Indiana and attended Illinois Wesleyan University, where she majored in Hispanic Studies. After earning an MAT in elementary education, she taught Kindergarten in Chicago Public Schools, where she earned numerous grants and facilitated district-wide professional development about early childhood math. She lives in Chicago with her husband and two curious children, Elliot and Emmett.
Katie enjoys spending time outside and facilitates volunteer workdays to protect the natural area in her local park. She also organized members of her community to bring a nature play space to her neighborhood.
Priya Desai
Priya Giri Desai started her work in children's media at WGBH Boston, working on the Emmy-nominated series Postcards From Buster, a spin-off of Arthur that explored kids of all backgrounds around the world. The live-action/animation hybrid series piqued Priya's interest in non-fiction storytelling, and she went on to direct and produce Lovesick, a feature-length documentary film set in India that had its world premiere at DOCNYC in 2017 and is now available to stream across Asia on Netflix and for rent/sale on Vimeo.
Priya was Development Producer in Children's Media at WGBH, where she helped to conceive and pitch media projects for children that span television, SVOD, audio and more. She developed WGBH's kids podcast strategy and produced their first podcast, Molly of Denali. Priya also created and executed the MoD Scriptwriting Fellowship, which added Alaska Native writers to the team that eventually won the 2020 Peabody Award. They are now permanent members of the writers’ room. Before tv/film work, Priya wrote and edited for print media outlets such as LIFE magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe Sunday Magazine and more. She lives in Boston with her family and loves to read everything her 6- and 12-year-old daughters can get their hands on.
Dave Peth
Dave Peth is an Emmy-winning producer and digital creative consultant based in Philadelphia. He loves all his projects equally, but he’s especially pleased to have worked on PBS KIDS Odd Squad, Peg + Cat, Scribbles and Ink, and of course, Math Talk! He holds degrees from Cornell and Harvard in things having to do with art, technology and learning. He also holds cups of coffee, his kids, and doors open for others, but not usually at the same time.
Ron Worthy
Ron Worthy has amassed over 25 years of professional experience in strategic planning, technology, entertainment and media, in both consulting and in-house capacities for some of the web’s most innovative and well recognized brands. In these roles, he has driven revenue and profits through strategic alliances, community outreach and product and business development.
Ron founded Buzzworthy Media Ventures, LLC in April of 2007 to assist start-up and established businesses develop to improve their web presence and interactive strategy. While Buzzworthy primarily specializes in building and monetizing online communities, social networks and niche online personals businesses, its client base has recently included non-profits and a variety of small-mid sized businesses in addition to industry leading enterprises.
Among his other clients, Ron recently managed strategic partnerships and business development in entertainment, sports, gaming and niche categories including African-American and 50+ segments for the Match Group, LLC, a subsidiary of InterActive Corp (IAC), and its portfolio of sites including its flagship brand, Match.com, OurTime, BlackPeopleMeet, Tinder, OKCupid among others. In this capacity, Ron has led negotiations and closed key partnerships with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Steve Harvey Worldwide, and Reach Media among others. Ron has also provided social media strategy and execution for People Media, Inc., a subsidiary of Match.com and the #1 provider of niche personals sites and participated in the sale of People Media, Inc. to Match for $80MM.
Ron previously led Product and Business Development for PeopleMedia, Inc. In this capacity, Ron managed a portfolio of nearly 30 sites and drove significant user growth through innovative feature enhancements and strategic partnerships. In particular, Ron conceived and executed a strategic alliance with Steve Harvey Worldwide, InnerCity Broadcasting, Premiere Radio Network that resulted in the radio segment, Radio Date, which was featured on the Steve Harvey Morning Show and listened to weekly by more than 8 million listeners.
Prior to launching BMV, Ron led new product strategy and development for Community Connect, Inc. In this capacity, he directed strategic planning for and managed a subscription portfolio of more than $6MM, which included BlackPlanet.com, AsianAvenue.com and MiGente.com. He participated in the sale of Community Connect, Inc. to Radio One, Inc. for $37MM.
Prior to joining CCI, Ron worked as a Manager with American Express Company in its Open Small Business Network (formerly Small Business Services). While there, Ron participated in several product launches including the Blue for Business card and Delta SkyMiles Corporate Credit Card. Ron managed a portfolio of more than 2MM Cardmembers and led the group’s Membership Rewards initiatives. As a member of the co-brand card group, Ron managed the client relationship with Delta Airlines and led strategic planning for ongoing acquisition and loyalty initiatives.
Ron has been featured or quoted in articles in the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Vibe, Essence, Glamour, TheGriot/MSNBC and Ebony Magazines and appeared on National Public Radio, Black Enterprise Television, New York's Hot 97 and the nationally syndicated The Steve Harvey Morning Show.
A native of Washington, D.C., Ron earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and Entrepreneurial Studies from the NYU-Stern School of Business.
Ron is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and regularly volunteers for A Better Chance, an organization which identifies and places underrepresented minorities into some of the nation's most prestigious prep schools. He was also selected as a Stanford Associate (for outstanding alumni service), serves as a member of the NYU-Stern Alumni Council, the NYU-Stern Entertainment, Media and Technology Council, and as a business plan mentor & coach for the NYU-Berkeley Innovation Lab.
Finally, Ron currently resides in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn with his wife Dana, his daughter, Camille and his cat, Rio. He regularly enjoys DJing, discussing popular music, technology, golf, comedy, and billiards.
Debbie Leslie
Debbie Leslie is Director of Education Outreach and Director of Early Childhood Initiatives at UChicago STEM Education. After graduating from Yale University with a BA in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics, Debbie received an MST from the University of Chicago, and loved being an early childhood classroom teacher for 11 years.
At UChicago STEM Education, Debbie draws on her interests and expertise in early learning, professional development, curriculum development, organizational leadership, and family supports to work on a wide range of projects, including developing early math content for MathTalk. Some of Debbie’s other recent work includes collaborating with UChicago faculty on a family-facing early math website and an early math assessment, developing early childhood STEM projects and programs for teachers and families, teaching methods courses to pre-service teachers in the University of Chicago’s Urban Teacher Education Program, leading the Everyday Mathematics early childhood team, and engaging in long-term partnerships with schools to improve STEM teaching and learning school-wide. She is also working on her PhD in Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
With colleagues at Erikson University, Debbie was part of the group that convened the Early Childhood STEM Working Group and produced the Working Group’s 2016 Early STEM Matters report. She has also co-written multiple chapters and articles on leadership for mathematics reforms in elementary schools and a chapter on innovations in elementary-school science curriculum development.
Debbie and her husband, Jeff, have three sons (two in college and one in high school) and two dogs. Their baseball-loving family lives in Chicago, where they are die-hard White Sox fans.
Sophia Green
Sophia Green is the Content illustrator at Math Talk. Since graduating from the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) in 2019. She has had various freelancing opportunities including animating for the 1st annual Black Animator’s awards show. In her free time she enjoys creating diverse and fun characters. And tutoring animation at her alma mater.
Adam Czibere
Adam is a software engineer specialised in Augmented Reality and mobile app development. He was working on various digital products (interactive fairytale app for children, mobile AR experience to raise awarness of extinct animals, engaging games for museums).
He finished his studies in Hungary as Computer Enginner at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He likes to play guitar in his free time.
Elon Perry-Stiner
Elon Perry-Stiner is a senior at Tufts University majoring in Child Development and Film and Media Studies. She is an intern with MathTalk and primarily supports community engagement and outreach projects. Elon is interested in creating equitable educational spaces for underserved communities.
Jehan Madhani
Jehan Madhani is a South Asian American writer from Houston, Texas working in children's media and comedy in NYC. She spends her time drawing comics, making puppets, and tweeting about romantic comedies. She was a fellow in the inaugural class of the Sesame Street Writers’ Room and received the 2020 Lee & Low New Voices Award Honor. She is invested in and passionate about diverse narratives celebrating POC and immigrants and their children, and that reflect real communities.
She remembers exactly when and where she first read the name Jehan in a book (she was 12, the book was Inkspell, and the character had nothing else in common with her). She wants her nephew and other kids to hear their names in the stories they're read, and feel like they and their families and their communities are in the books they pick up.
Danielle Hendrix
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Danielle Hendrix always had a knack for the creative. Growing up in a home of talented artists, Danielle rapidly grew to enjoy expressing herself creatively in a variety of media. Classically trained in the fine arts, she pursued her passion and attended the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia. Completing her BFA in Graphic Design in 2008 with honors, she immediately founded Ecce Design Studio, LLC, a boutique graphic design and marketing studio.
Her great love of travel, exploration, and learning about people and cultures enables Danielle to incorporate new and exciting visual elements as inspiration points for her design and creative work. Danielle has over 15 years in professional experience having worked with a myriad of clients in various industries including educational institutions, celebrity non-profits, clothing and apparel companies, restaurants and cafes, as well as independent contractors and sole-proprietor business owners.
In her spare time, Danielle enjoys photography, visiting new places, sampling art styles and design techniques, enjoying new recipes, spending time with family, friends, and of course, her fabulous rescue dog Zoey.
Keith Griffin
Born and raised in Cambridge, Keith Griffin has been involved with youth physical education for the past 27 years. He coached multiple youth sports leagues for ages 4 through 12. Keith serves on the Cambridge Family Council policy board to help build equity in health and educational opportunities across the city. In 2018, Keith joined MathTalk where he applies his carpentry skills to help create and develop math installations in public spaces throughout the community where he currently lives and raises his 6 children.
Keith works in Family and Community Engagement for MathTalk. He enjoys the outdoors. In his spare-time he likes to fish, cook/grill and spend time with family.
Seema Nair
Seema brings over a decade of software testing and quality assurance expertise to the table. She has substantial experience with manual testing and the test automation of web and mobile applications. Seema is a certified Scrum Master, IBM certified DB2 professional, TOGAF Certified and AWS certified solution architect comfortable with Agile and Waterfall approaches.
Apart from programming, Seema is passionate about teaching and considers herself fortunate to have mentoring and honing several bright engineers. She likes to unwind by reading a book.
